MRAP Military Vehicle Training

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia National Guard hosted an opening ceremony for an innovative training program and facility Monday, Sept. 19 at 9 a.m. at the Center for National Response in Standard, W.Va (Memorial Tunnel, just off I-64). The new training program and facility was designed to prepare U.S. forces to navigate challenging terrain they face daily in countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, and others.

John Perdue announced a new SMART529 Matching Grant Program

Cross Lanes, WV – State Treasurer John Perdue announced a new SMART529 Matching Grant Program that will help eligible families save for their child’s education beyond high school. Families who qualify may be eligible to receive a savings match of up to $500 a year, and up to $2,500 lifetime per child. The funds may be used to pay for higher education expenses at any eligible institution.

City of Lewisburg, America’s Coolest Small Town

Lewisburg, W.Va. – The Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) welcomed guests for a celebration of the City of Lewisburg’s title as America’s Coolest Small Town, as featured in next month’s issue of Budget Travel magazine on Tuesday, August 23 from 2PM to 6PM at the Greenbrier Valley Visitor’s Center located in downtown Lewisburg.

The celebration kicked off at 2PM with a special presentation and remarks. Visitors had the opportunity to purchase the commemorative issue of the magazine.

There’s nothing like a Girl Scout cookie.

The Girl Scouts of the Black Diamond Council rely on people buying those cookies to fund their activities all year long.  In 2010, The Media Center worked with the Black Diamond Council to build on the sales of those cookies, across the state, to assist with the funding of the council’s many programs for the young girls.  The assistance came in the form of an all around media awareness campaign that included statewide articles in newspapers and on radio and TV.
