Coverage from Immunization Site
Charleston, WV – With most schools across West Virginia opening this month, the West Virginia Immunization Network (WIN) and state health officials are urging parents to ensure that their children, particularly if they are entering the seventh-grade, are properly immunized. Nationally, West Virginia immunization rates are lower for the two important vaccinations – Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and MCV (meningococcal/meningitis).
The West Virginia Immunization Network, encourages parents to have their child’s immunization record reviewed by their family physician. Immunizations can also be obtained at local county health departments, school-based health centers, and local health clinics.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month and state health care groups around the state are using the month to increase awareness about immunization across the life span, from infancy to old age, said Lansdale.
